Four routes along the Llobregat River
Easy routes to enjoy with the family on foot or by bike, a great way to explore the local landscape and the history of the people who have inhabited it. From Cal Rosal to Balsareny, passing through textile model villages. From Balsareny to Manresa, following the mediaeval canal that carried water to the capital city of the Bages region from the Llobregat River, a witness to the heritage, industry, engineering and life of the area... Choose whichever route you fancy and get walking.
1. Textile Model Villages Route, from Cal Rosal to Puig-reig
Waymarked as PR C-144 (short-distance path), this route, which takes nearly four hours, is completely flat and follows the river, passing through the model villages of Cal Rosal, l'Ametlla de Casserres and Viladomiu Nou. It’s a very pleasant route that winds through forests, farmland and lush riverside vegetation.
2. Textile Model Villages Route, from Puig-reig to Balsareny
Following the route of the textile model villages, this stage between Puig-reig and Balsareny is a breeze and suitable for the whole family. It’s an excursion of less than four hours that ends in Balsareny, where the magnificent castle is a must-see attraction.
3. Route of the Manresa Irrigation Channel
A canal has been carrying water from the Llobregat River, from Balsareny to Manresa (capital of the Bages region) for over six centuries. It’s an amazing feat of engineering. Follow the Route of the Manresa Irrigation Channel to discover places of great heritage and scenic interest, such as L’Agulla Park and the Can Font Water Centre, where you can find out about the water route.
4. From Sant Fruitós de Bages to Sant Vicenç de Castellet
Following the Llobregat River is a real history lesson! This completely flat route, which takes five and half hours to complete, transports you to the Middle Ages, taking in sites of interest such as the Monastery of Sant Benet de Bages and the Gothic-style Vilomara Bridge.
