A summer for stargazing

It’s summertime, night falls and you suddenly remember that this is the best time of the year for skywatching and stargazing. You look up and, right on time, spot the planet Venus rearing its bright head, announcing the show to come. The Perseids, also known as the Tears of Saint Lawrence, faithfully await you, like every summer, to make you reflect for a while on the immensity and beauty that surrounds us... Have you made a wish yet?

Fancy a stellar camping trip? Enjoy a night in a cabin at the magical Cal Paradís campsite in the heart of Catalonia, where the sky is clear and free of light pollution. It’s located near the Castelltallat Astronomical Observatory, so when night falls, head over for an “Introduction to Skywatching”, in which you’ll find out how to observe the stars and constellations through a telescope.

In August, the observatory offers 40-minute night sessions to experience the most popular meteor shower of the year, bathed in the beautiful moonlight provided by the full moon on those dates. The planetarium session includes a visit to the permanent exhibit on the proportions of the solar system and a talk about the meteor shower.

In Garraf Park, water and fire have shaped a landscape of gentle reliefs and young forests. It's a unique, exotically Mediterranean part of the world where the sea, silence and calm provide a state of fulfilment and tranquillity. In the heart of the park stands the Garraf Observatory, which has a busy summer schedule of visit options. Check the calendar to find out when you can take part in the Art and Sky experience, a unique astronomical activity in which your creativity and brushes take centre stage. “Olivella, The Garraftastic Experience” offers you two days of brilliant activities. The night is quite literally one of the star turns of this getaway, giving you the chance to relax as you observe the spectacle offered by the sky.

Let’s head to the Saldes Astronomical Centre in the Berguedà region, where you’ll see the stars closer than ever. With the darkness and peace of the mountains, it will almost feel like you can touch them.

The Pujalt Observatory in the Anoia region also has a packed schedule of activities this August, including dinners under the stars and three special themed days dedicated to the Perseids.

So now you know! You can stargaze wherever you happen to be, but there are options very close by that offer you the chance to see the stars this summer like you’ve never seen them before.
